The Z City hotel is in Temple, an ideal location for both tourists and business travelers — a short walk from Covent Garden and right across the road from the Royal Courts of Justice. My fourth floor room is very small but exceptionally well-thought out. There’s no wardrobe or drawers but there are pegs on the wall and hangers. Sliding frosted glass doors conceal the bathroom, which contains an excellent shower.
The details are good: huge, thick white towels, a powerful Babyliss hairdryer, mint tea and hot chocolate are all provided. Wi-fi is complimentary and there’s a selection of Sky channels on the 48-inch wall-mounted TV. The view is amazing — I gaze out over rooftops to the Oxo Tower, Sea Containers House, the London Eye and National Theatre.
Downstairs is the small, perky Zest Cafe, where free (excellent) cheese and wine is served every evening between 5–8pm.
It’s a bright, simple well-located option for those who want to stay in London on a budget but don’t want to give up the extras that come with a good hotel.
