In a city of rugged architecture and Ottoman-era spas, Kempinski Corvinus is a modern, glass-adorned construction overlooking Elizabeth Square.
The lobby is grand but by no means ostentatious, accented with understated splashes of gold and cream. In the spa, I put on a pair of headsets pre-tuned with calming, tinkly music, before taking a dip in the small pool overlooking bustling Budapest. The rest of the evening is wiled away relaxing in the Finnish sauna
I have breakfast at ES Bisztro, a vibrant Hungarian-Viennese bistro serving up local meat, fish and cheese. It feels less luxury-hotel restaurant, and more a friendly neighbor’s kitchen, with the day’s specials scrawled across chalkboards.
The service is faultless, and the staff even boxes up my breakfast and coffee as I make a dash to the airport. This place is one of Budapest’s finest.
