Hertz car rental

Stephanie Cavagnaro tries out a BMW 4ER from Hertz for a road trip between Germany and Austria

Details: Pick-up/return: Munich main train station. Car model: BMW 4ER.

Booking: Online booking was easy and straightforward with options to pre-pay online or at the pick-up location. Handy extras, including booster car seats and winter tires, were available.

Collection: No wait at the desk meant collection was speedy. Despite pre-paying, I had to pay a surcharge at check-in for winter tires, which are compulsory in Germany and not included in the price. The rest was simple — I was given my rental agreement, keys and directions to the garage, located opposite the train station.

Vehicle: The mid-range automatic BMW 4ER was a dream to drive with a fuel-efficient diesel engine, built-in sat nav, plenty of space and comfortable heated leather seats.

Drop off: Return location details were on my rental agreement, which I entered into the sat nav. Upon arrival, a friendly attendant swiftly procured the keys and car for inspection.

Service: Staff were diligent, quick and friendly. As I was traveling to another country (Austria) they helpfully informed me I needed to purchase a 10-day toll sticker before entering.

Last word: A seamless service, from start to finish, with no lengthy waiting times and thorough staff ensuring a stress-free drive between countries
