Flight Review: British Airways

British Airways

Details: London Heathrow to Buenos Aires Ministro Pistarini International Airport. Boeing 777-200. Flight time: 13h 50m.

Seats: There’s a spacious feel with high ceilings and a 2-3-2 configuration. I’ve landed one of the two-seat sections — a bulkhead aisle (12J) ideal for stretching out and taking a stroll during the long flight. Seats are a satisfactory 18.5 inches wide with a 38-inch pitch, a winged headrest and power socket plus noise-reducing headphones and amenity kit.

Food & drink: I’m served some premium brands including Bombay Sapphire gin with Fever Tree tonic, followed by a quaffable Argentinian wine. I tuck into a three-course meal with delicious chocolate dessert.

Entertainment: A range of films is featured on the touchscreen console plus loads of TV series and documentaries, some destination-led.

Service: I flew out in World Traveller Plus, then on the return flight I was in economy. There was a warm welcome on both flights. One particularly convivial crew member, on hearing I had a horse, gave me his old pair of work gloves, which he thought would make excellent mucking out utensils.

Last word: Great flight, worth paying a bit more for premium, especially as you can take two 23kg bags in the hold, rather than the one you’re allowed in economy. Sam Lewis
