Glen Mutel reviews Air New Zealand’s flight from Los Angeles to Auckland
Details: Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Auckland Airport (AKL), premium economy, Boeing 777-300. Flight time: 12h 50m
Seats: My premium economy Spaceseat is a wide, shell-style seat that tilts away from my neighbour for more privacy. It came with leg-rests, a decent recline and handy little pockets.
Food & drink: I enjoy an excellent dinner of salmon, seared hapuku fish and panna cotta, accompanied by a selection of artisan breads and a choice of very pleasant New Zealand wines. Later on in the flight, I devour an equally tasty breakfast of egg and sausage.
Entertainment: A detachable touchscreen monitor offers a great selection of films, TV shows, music, maps and games. Pleasingly, the entertainment is accessible from the moment we board to the moment we land, and comes with decent headphones.
What else: Between main meals you can order from a vast menu of free snacks and drinks on your entertainment screen.
Last word: I may not have tried them all but I’d be surprised if there’s a better premium economy product on the market. It’s definitely more premium than economy.
